BAE-SEMINAR ANNOUNCEMENT MAY2009

UNDERTAKING MULTI SCALE NL MODELLING ON MINE SITES

A short time ago, all modelling was undertaken by consultants. History has shown that the change to mostly mine site based modelling was genuine progress.

Now new technology is emerging. Multi-scale Non-Linear (MS NL) modelling tools have evolved that represent the next stage in mine modelling. The advantages are more physics, better representation of geology and structure, fewer assumptions and potential for direct ground proofing. The disadvantage has been that it is harder to undertake at the mine site. BAE believes that the new technology is now at a stage where it is hard to justify the simpler alternatives for analysing some very common problems, but if mines are going to gain maximum benefit, mine sites need to be leading the application.

INTEGRATING MULTI SCALE NL MODELLING ON MINE SITES

How can mine sites begin the journey towards site based, or mining company based 3D NL modelling? BAE is not a seller of the software but we do work with mines to help them with all aspects of MS NL analysis, from site based training and engineering support to detailed analysis for complex problems.

On the 13th of May 2009, in Cairns to coincide with the timing of the next EAGCG meeting, BAE will hold a seminar where we will discuss progress towards mine site based 3D MS NL modelling.

Topics will include:

  • Skills and tools needed to undertake the modelling on mine sites
  • Current technology from green-fields to mine closure
  • Models for using the technology on mine sites and in mining companies
  • How geotechnical engineering and geotechnical careers might change

The cost of attendance at the seminars will be free to all who wish to attend, but the places will be limited. If you would like to attend, have a special request for a topic or would like more information, please call +61 412 135 782, or reply to ctucker@beckarndt.com.au.
